My poor router

After over 3 years of trusty service, my Linksys router died yesterday. It was a very depressing experience, especially since I had to shed my IP address that I've had since January 2005.
RIP Mr. Router.

Sorry Tamar, I had a meeting and wasn't around to sympathize. If my router died (also a linksys & about 5 years old) decided to go to router heaven my daughter would be very upset. My cable modem would still give me a connection, but alas I wouldn't be able to share it with her anymore
RIP router

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to, well, you know the rest.
Sorry to hear about the passing of your router! I can't even express my condolences!

haha thanks.
I had a direct connection to the modem from the only computer I was using, but that left 7 computers (including my wireless connection) out in the cold. It was very painful!
I have to say that my Linksys (it's a "version 3" router versus the old "version 2" that died on me) is pretty lousy. The v3 is much worse quality to v2. I don't get that, but hey, whatever makes them money.
It'd be nice if Linksys was monitoring their brand reputation and would actually respond to my complaints. Their staff was totally incompetent and I'm just irked out.

I saw you ask about the router on Twitter yesterday. I do empathize when it comes to Linksys support. I had to call them once a couple of years ago and it was completely pointless. The person on the other end didn't even talk to me. He didn't put me on hold or anything, but I would ask questions and he just ignored them.
It was by far the worst support call I've ever had and also the last time I called Linksys for anything.

RIP Router..may your days be full of uncorrupted and unfragmented packets
I know what you mean Tamar. I had a v3 wireless router that just up and died on me and it took me many phone calls and a LOT of badgering to get them to send me a new one (which ended up being a v6). Anyways, there's no reason why customer service should be that incompetant and thoughtless...but then again, that's what happens when you get shoddy training+outsourcing!

I would have to go immediately out and buy another one. There is no way I can do without a router and wireless

Tamar's router, which art in file thirteen,
Hallowed be its IP address.
It led her to the still bandwidth
And the yet more still tech support
Thus preparing a table for her with its competitors
Surely Cisco will be the way to go,
Forever and ever, Amen.

Already done. Plus, I now have 2 more that I bought in the event that one dies. I can't afford to be offline for that long! It was torture!

I thought about it, but I can't find a Linksys 8 port wifi router All I have is a wired router. My wifi router plugs into my wired router. It's a complicated network setup with 10.x.x.x IP addresses and also 192.168.x.x IP addresses.

Hmm, care to share why the class A?
My geeky side wonder what use you could have of such a big zone. Never had more than 15 net pieces of junk linked together...
And for those who are wondering about the "big zone", a class A private subnet allows 1 segment of 16'000'000 IP addresses (16'777'216 to be precise), when a class C (192.168.xxx.xxx) allows 256 segments of 256 IP addresses.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network
Both classes including the broadcasts addresses, of course.
