Yes, you've read the post about the
$25k merge contest and would like that sweet MacBook Air to play some flash games on...now what?
Here are some tips that've helped me win not just forum contests, but a number of top affiliate prizes in product launches too.
Tip 1: Have an outcome in mind
I almost never let what anyone else say affects my plans.
I play any game, according to my rules.
If my plan to win this contest is to post 1,000 times, submit 500 articles, refer 200 new members to the board, I will stick to it, even if it seems like everyone else is going to submit 2 articles and invite 20 friends to join.
If you have a plan in mind, you will get the results you were shooting for.

Tip 2: Be Focused
We all have only 24 hours a day. (I like to take afternoon naps every day and a nice swim).
So taking part in this contest is going to take away from that time.
Are you going to take time out of your schedule to win this contest?
Or are you just going to spend that 5 minutes of dead time before "Lost" to send out 1-2 emails to friends to join the forum?
If you're not actively working on your outcome, you're going to be relying a lot on Lady Luck to shine on you.
Some people rely on Luck. Others
MAKE their own "Luck".
-
Tip 3: Multi-tasking Doesn't Work
If you want to give your best effort, shut down your email client, turn off your IM client/twitter/etc while you're working on your contest entry.
It's said that it takes an average of 9 minutes to settle down once you're distracted from accomplishing your primary task.
If you really WANT to win, rather than just "wish" to win - a little focus won't hurt.
-
Tip 4: Have Fun
This is the most important element for me in any project.
Go do the thing which produces the most enjoyment for you.
If it's forum posting, do that.
If it's inviting friend, do that.
I don't think it's worth even a prize like a MacBook (or a 100'' plasma for that matter...) to do something you DON'T enjoy.
Because the whole reason we're in this "internet thing" is to have fun, isn't it?
