Ok, I am the owner of www.GamersCommunity.net.

I recieved an email from mail@talkvideogames.net that says

I did not authorize no such action to merge with that site.

I believe the owner of talkvideogames.net is my previous host for GamersCommunity.net. I think he had saved a backup of GamersCommunity.net when it was hosted with him and got the emails, usernames, and passwords of all members and is emailing them and telling them about his site.

Also on talkvideogames.net, their is the username "MoeAlza" which is my unique username and I am guessing they are trying to pretend to be me.

What can I do in this situation?

I guess the best thing you can do is find out who owns TalkVideoGames.net and contact them directly to see what all the nonsense is about. If he refuses to cooperate, you might have to server him with a DMCA notice, but maybe he'll be reasonable.

You can send a notice to your members that if they receive an e-mail from this guy to ignore it, and that no such merger has taken place. I'd include an assurance that you're doing everything you can to protect their e-mail addresses and personal data from falling into the wrong hands, and keep that promise. It might not hurt to check out this site and see what, if anything, you're saying over there. If it comes down to dirty pool, and you think it's safe to do so, you could try to log on as you on that site and post an objection. Sure, it'll probably be deleted, but only when they find it.

I have put a notice on my site, www.GamersCommunity.net, and have emailed my users. I am also going to contact the owner of the other site and see what's this all about.

And I did post on their site about the fake merge.

Do a traceroute on the email you received, then try a forward traceroute through knujon.com (traces through the links), see if the IP's match. See if they're the same as your previous host, and if not, see if you can look up who this guy is.

If this is someone stealing your client base then when you email you clients you may want to stress that you had no control over the emails sent and are doing everything to make sure they do not receive spam and to protect their personal data etc but you need their help to speed the process along.

Put a copy of this guys email address in with your email so your clients can complain to him directly and to whichever governing body controls data protection polocy in your country
- and suggest all your clients write / email in and complain both to your previous host (or who ever has ripped off your client base) and the internet watchdog (who ever that is) and whichever government body protects individuals personal data (such as a fraud department or something)

You could also pre-write the email/letter template yourself to make sure any salient points are made.

This may take some time to do but at least who ever is doing it will get the message and hopefuly prosecuted.

The owner imed me and said:

"Your SQL was present in 5 warez websites. We merged because we thought you had put it there. We will remove all data, and posts from Gamercommunity.

Take better care of your files

".

I have never uploaded my sql to any warez site. I asked him for the list of the sites he found them on.

Command prompt --> type in tracert space then domain name. Or you can go to spamcop.net and paste the body of the email in their form; you may get more info that way. And don't forget knujon. Their method of tracing can sometimes be more effective.

That last IM you received sounds like a veiled threat.
