We were named for Chief Seattle, but it's also Sea-town. We're surrounded by an inlet from the Pacific Ocean, and Lake Washington; plus there are a lot of big lakes and channels within the city. So we have a lot of bridges, and the major ones come in pairs. A big one, carrying a freeway or major arterial, and a lower bridge for surface streets, opening for the larger boats.

The Montlake Cut is a narrow channel connecting Seattle and ultimately the ocean, with Lake Washington. It's pretty heavily trafficked, so the wake is pretty intense:
