We just cant connect to Google.com in our office. It worked before then Tuesday it just stopped working. And we use Gmail for one of our business email accounts so we're in a pickle here. Now when I type in 216.239.51.104 it connects right away to the English Google website, however gmail still won't connect. Our office is in a complex where there's a main server room in the basement and our router(3com) and firewall(sonicwall 3000) are connected to the line in the basement and all our machines connect to the RJ45 jacks in the wall, which I assume run right down to our router in the basement. So anyway something is blocking google's domain in our system. Me knowing squat about networking I tried to login to the firewall and actually see if google was on the blocked domain list but it wasnts. I did add it to the trusted domains but that didnt help. So I dont know what to do at this point. The server guys in the basement are kinda busy and dont have time to help us so we're stuck. Can someone give me some pointers?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

~Dan

EDIT: When I tried to ping google.com I actually got 100% response from 64.233.167.99

If the guys in the server room are busy, chances are they didn't add Google to your firewall blacklist fo rthe fun of it!

Can you connect through a proxy server? I don't know of any off hand, but if you ask Google you'll find plenty of them to play with. But that will tell you if you can get through from a proxy hop, that you're being blocked by their server. Or at least it will strongly suggest it, because it'll make it look like you're asking for a search from a wholly different machine.

What have you been doing with your gmail account? You probably need to step up to their Apps 4 Your Business, or whatever it's called. But if you haven't been sending plans for hijacking the Googleplex while sending billions of spam emails, I can't think of a good reason they would block your access to their email system, and not block you from their search.

Well actually we are blocked from any domain related to google, like mail.google.com etc. If you type in the IP it takes you straight to Google's homepage. But gmail doesnt exactly have an IP that lets you in the back door. Is there an actual way to contact Google headquarters or their tech support? I never found any contact info for them. Unless our gmail got hacked, we've never sent anything with an exe attachment or any kind of spamming so I have no clue.

Forgive my ignorance, whats the difference between a "proxy" server and connecting through a big office complex's ISP?

The proxy is generally used to hide your IP address online, or to bypass firewalls at work. connecting to google through a proxy, would be like connecting to it through a totally different ISP.

Try my own: www.bldhosting.net/surf .. www.hidemyass.com is also a good one.

Have you tried restarting your computer? Sometimes that can fix the problem, as it could just be your DNS setting acting up.
