What countries, if any, do you have banned from accessing any portions of your site?

So far, I have banned:

Brazil
Russia
China
North Korea
Parts of Germany
Nigeria
Parts of the Philippines
Parts of India

You should include the reason why?

I think it's pretty much obvious to any webmaster what these countries pull against USA servers.

You blocked North korea? I'm suprised there's a processor that would even touch it in the first place.

Wow... very controversial.

If, as a budding web developer, you had a BIG client (We're talking BIG £££'s!) and you found out they lived in one of your so called "banned" countries would you drop 'em?

I am an arcade site owner, not a major business corporation. This is only small business and somewhat of a hobby, so I don't get clients as per say.

Besides, nearly 95% of my traffic comes from the USA so I really lose nothing.

The chances of that happening is slim to none, so it does not worry me.

Okay so you are limiting potential visitors from outside countries. You yourself are making those chances slim.

Potential visitors? My site is geo-targetted for United States and United Kingdom traffic. According to my AwStats, 95% of my traffic is currently coming from the United States.

I don't see potential visitors from anywhere else outside of my geo-targetted countries.

Okay, but why ban them and limit potential visitors? It is only in your best interest.

My best interest is the safety and security of my small business, meanwhile making maximum potential revenue.

My business is geo-targetted for a main purpose of revenue. I am making sure that my traffic is coming from countries where I can actually take legal action in case of an attack.

You should know this, being a web hosting owner.

If they find a security hole on your system and exploit it, then chances are they are smarter than you, so how will you find them to sue them?

There are just as many smart hackers in the US as there are in North Korea. More, I'm sure. Usually they don't leave a calling card no matter what country they originate from. Even if you can track them down, usually they don't have any assets so legal action will only make your lawyer rich, not you.

I don't ban any countries from any of my sites. Occasionally I will ban an IP address or even a whole block in rare circumstances. Even those bans are usually not permanent.

^ Agreed

I personally have a couple of IPs banned on a site because i have a script to show me 404's so i can see whos trying hack attempts that way.

often hacks a) use a proxy b) are on dynamic addresses
