Now Chrome integrates search and address bar in one place, taking up less space and offering integrated functions.

I don't see why this is an advantage to Chrome ?
Don't you know of the "hot links" in Firefox ???
To search google, I type "g {search terms}" in my url bar. "m" is for Msn, "y" is for Yahoo...
As for the search field, you can simply remove it with the add/remove button.
Nothing new here. It's just the default that changed.
And for convenience, to create a "hot link", you simply create a bookmark on the search page you want.
Then, edit it, add a shortcut to it, and in the url field, replace the search terms with %s.
This is what I've got for google:
Code:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=%s+&btnG=Google+Search
