DP vs WT

I personally think that Webmaster-Talk is SO much better than Digital point. for some reason, I simply can't stand it over there. It's just something about WT that always keeps me coming back!
What really disappoints me, however, is the difference in active members. The Digital point forums is much, much busier. I would love to have that kind of activity up here. So, I was wondering, what gives? Why are they so much more popular?
Is there anything us, webmasters, can do to help?

The traffic in DP is what is making that forum unbearable. Because it means there are a LOT of people, there are more real knowledgeable people, but also a lot more of "the rest". You can't post a single thread there without getting 100 useless "me too" posts that carry big misinformation.
I like the flow here. It's busy enough to have a few new threads a day and not busy enough that you get to really know the OP, know whose answers to trust. To me, I am still at the beginning of my learning process (I believe it never stops) so it's important that I can rely on an answer. If chris or van gogh (just to name 2) say something about a thread, I know I can trust their answer. I don't take it for granted, but I believe they are that much closer to provide a good answer than the "get more links" posts.
My second favorite forum with WMT is high rankings. I barely ever post there because it is the forum with the most skilled experts I have ever been on. I mostly read on this forum. I don't usually have anything smarter to add than what have already been said. Again, there is not nearly a tenth of the traffic compared to DP. Good, 90% of the "crap" is filtered by the level of knowledge.
I guess I should stop my rant. I believe you get my point.

Most of it is down to the forums policy and tolerance of information quality level.
The HR policy is that "me too" posts and posts that are regurgitated crap are simply binned so it keeps the noise down, and the long standing members will challenge anyone posting dubious looking "information" to "put up or shut up" and offer some explanation for their "facts". Signature links are not seen by guests so have no "SE value" which keeps the sig link posters away.
DP is close to the opposite end of the scale, and "forum" is taken in the Roman context so everybody can have their say regardless of how little it adds to the discussion.
WT is in the middle ground towards the HR and IHY end. Out and out self promo spam isn't tolerated, neither is copy and pasted "article" dumping and sig link noise generators are dealt with so their "noisy" posts give them none of the "benefit" they expect and they give up.
How can webmasters help?
Just spread the word around.
If you happen to "blog";
Write review posts on threads you found interesting, useful or just entertaining.
Do a write up on a member who gives consistently good (or bad) information or you find entertaining.
If you do the "social networking"/"bookmarking" thing, do the same. Oddly enough that's the kind of thing "bookmarking sites" actually exist for. Not the self promo link dropping drivel that "marketers" see them as.
Do things like that that for somebody else and you might just learn how to be a better marketer for your own stuff.

Another reason is people are getting job at there and people getting their work done in the cheap rates. People of Asian countries are ready to do job much less than developed country citizen.
We need to start such kind of trading activities here also. DP Alexa ranking is going down with the every update.
Just create the marketplace here also and you will see the effect.

I don't know, if we had 100's of members online at a time, that would be real cool. Maybe if we added a few more mods we'd be able to handle it, so it's not so chaotic.
What if all of us got together and added a few links on our site, to improve the ranking of this site, would that change anything? Is it a matter of ranking at this point?

I think word to mouth would be much more efficient than higher rankings. I believe that high rankings will attract a lot of "me too" sig link poster.
I will follow chris's idea and write an article on my blog about this forum.

I think I'll do it too, but I really don't get too many readers on my blog ........ who actually enjoys reading about web hosting !!! lol.
Well I found out about webmaster-talk through a Google search, and every webmaster I meet is through this forum ... although, I could forward all of my clients this way.
What I want is to have a community effort, and make ourselves superior to Digital point!
FOR SPARTA!!!!!!!!

Almost there andrei. WMT is right behind DP on the search term "webmaster forum".

Well, there must be other factors at play, as neither number one nor number two are more popular than digital point. Are they ranking well for some other search term?

Maybe if we can get it on the first page of the search term "webmaster". Currently it's on the fifth page.

yes " webmaster " would be a good keyword to grab and get to first place.
I wish DP would go to an exclusive "paid" membership that give you additionals, bit like dnforum.
DP is popular however they dont invest in servers as its goes up and down like a yoyo

Half the reason DP has such large numbers is because of the BST section. Just take a look at the "currently active users" in that forum at any given time:
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24
Obviously *I'm* not a stranger to the differences betwen the two places. And if WT were to grow substancially in size, the Tim and Lee would hire more help, appoint new admins, mods, etc. to assist the growing community.
Of course WT has it's problems too. Besides my vocal anti-ad stances, the marketplace turned A LOT of WT users off. The design is clunky, and many have compared it to SP. Whether it cut down on spam or not, I don't know (I never go in there, even to spam-hunt). Fix those two issues, and I think WT would *greatly* improve (in terms of registration numbers, post counts, etc.).

Maybe sometimes attracting some members isn't that useful!
