There is a quietly significant moment about to happen soon (if it hasnt already) according to the W3C School browser statistics reports.
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

For the first time since the early days of the Browser Wars in the late 90's,
Microsoft's combined share of the browser market is about to slip below 50%.

According to the August stats, all versions of IE accounted for a fraction over 50%.
Their market share has been steadily declining and I`d anticipate that will accelerate with Google Chrome muscling into the action.

The really interesting thing is that IE7 seems to have peaked back in June at 27% of the market and since then has started to slip.

And best news of all is that Firefox continues its relentless advance.
Hail the mighty Fox!

It's not something that is a general thing though.

W3Schools target viewers are web designers and developers, so it's no real surprise that FF is taking over IE in that particular demographic.

Do you know of any browser stats that are based on a less "biased" sample?

There is one more product from Google factory and that is Orkut. This one huge customer base. Everyone who visited this site can see this message SEE ORKUT IN CHROME. Just think about it when millions of people see this message than automatically some percentage is going to check that one and I think thats why Chrome is downloading again and again.

More over every news method paper or television highlighted Chrome. Google is one of the big company and if Google name attached to some product than that have to hit atleast in internet market.

Those results are based on visitors to that site:

Quote:
W3Schools is a website for people with an interest for web technologies. These people are more interested in using alternative browsers than the average user. The average user tends to use Internet Explorer, since it comes preinstalled with Windows. Most do not seek out other browsers.

These facts indicate that the browser figures above are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by at least 80% of the users.
IE's actual market share is much higher.

They should just partner up with Google and yahoo, and put the "tracker" on their website. I'm sure that'll give us more accurate results, as virtually everyone uses them!

I really don't mind using IE : ). I haven't had a problem with it ... besides a few code adjustments here and there! I just use Firefox so that you guys don't ignore me : (, lol.
