Is it right to give someone negative rep "just because you can"?

Its not fare to give a bad reputation just because you can or you feel like it. You just have to read the post and then rate the post and if its a bad one then only one can add a bad reputation. Seriously i dont like this bad rep thing and i will never click that

I too think it's not something to give without a thought.
The reputation, at least here, is given by jusging how helpful a person is.

Giving him negative tp is not something "unimportant" (the French word is "anodin", but the translation eludes me...)
Some people have really commited to help other here, and I really think they should be rewarded with TP.

At the same time, you thread "please give me TP" was a bit (and I'm being polite) an invitation to be flamed, and it look like you where.
It was like you didn't considered the path to earn that TP valuable enough to follow it.
I didn't TP you down, but I admit I have thougt of it.
The only reason I did not is that you where not dishonest, unpolite or counter productive on the problem of another member.

Man, reading me back, I can feel my 34 years on it. I sound like my father...
Sheesh..

John - we are giving you multiple chances to become a true member of this community. Here are some pointers -
  1. Help some one who is struggling with an issue you know how to fix
  2. Be nice - not just when you feel like it, but all the time you spend here - if you do it will come back to you.
  3. Don't fish for compliments - when you have done a good deed we notice it and compliment and/or thank you. We are a "community" - we are here to help each other.
  4. Remember that you are not better than any one else here. Just because I am a moderator doesn't make me better than any other member - it just gives me more responsibility.
The number of people that have given you negative reputation is directly correlated to how you have treated this community. You attacked us as soon as you joined and were determined to make an impression. You made an impression all right, and not a positive one. It will take time for you to over come that. I am not saying that you can not over come it, just that it will take you time. Webmaster-talk exists because it's members enjoy helping other people learn website design, coding and management and provide a place for the people who do these things to gather with people they share a commonality with. We are not here to attack you. We are also not here to play mind games.

I sincerely hope that you will decide to be a productive member of WT. For every knowledgeable member that we have we help innumerable people.

No, I wouldn't ever give anyone a bad rep for just wanting to or not liking the person. If you have a bad experience with the person, all you have to do is just ignore the person. No reason at all to give someone a person bad rep for no reason. Also it is against the rules for giving someone bad rep without reason.

I'm sure it's not against the rules to do so - and it's really up to you as to what deserves neg. Rep.

Here is the rule about Negative Talkupation:
  • Negative Talkupation
It is also possible to give out negative Talkupation. Negative Talkupation should be reserved for those posts that have a negative impact on the community, such as spam and flaming. You should not give negative Talkupation because you disagree with an opinion, differences of techniques, etc.

As mentioned before, this system should be treated with respect and it's very important to use it in a responsible manner.

All seriousness aside, seeing how it is unlikely you'll dig your way out of the red hole you're in, wouldn't it be funny to make you the most negative TP person in history that isn't banned?

He was already banned before, so that would disqualify him. And also he is already on cruise control to get rebanned.

But come on, wouldn't it be fun to see someone have full red bars?

I'd like to see a user get full red bars and not receive a single ban.

especially since the red bar will become bright red in the end. It would be pretty. I'm with you on this on Abel.
