I was just listening to "The hall of the mountain king" thing by grieg (you know, the Peer Gynt suite) and I was reminded of the doctor who episode with the little mini fat-creatures walking around in their millions - and I reckon they SOOO should have used the said Grieg on that episode. (for people who know i have no tv, i admit it, i watched it on youku).

The typo "grief" appeared too many times in my first draft of this post and I am inspired to say: "good grief, charlie brown". just for the hell of it. maybe i'll go and join a doctor who forum, though. i feel like talking about galifrey.

I haven't watched Dr Who in ages - thanks for bringing back some campy memories!

The good old doctor, eh? No matter how much we rail against TV, there's always 1 reason to have one, even if he/she regenerates a lot.

Don't you reckon they need a woman doctor now? They've only ever been male and i think that's rotten. What sort of egalitarianism do these timelords represent if they never have a female doctor?

Perhaps the teenage girl market would be lost if they can't idolize their favourite timelord, eh?

You realise we're presumably weeks away from the "Christmas Special" - well, 12 days away. I wonder if there's a doctor who advent calendar and on the last one instead of baby jesus there's a police box?

Or maybe as Dougal from father ted believes, a picture of Ruud Gullit sitting on a shed.

Do you like Tennant? I think he's quite cool, but too many youngsters seem to just fancy him. A lot of the recent doctor who episodes have been rather lame, plot-wise - then again a lot of the old ones were a bit lame/corny too. But amongst them are some real gems, and there's not a single Tom Baker episode I've seen which i didn't find most enjoyable.

I was thinking about writing my own episode, about a timelord called The Gardener, who's a cynic and not into helping people all the time like The Doctor is. In the end the episode would result in the Doctor realising that The Gardener's approach is valid too and sometimes the best way.

Hey, check out my doctor who satire... Dr Loo and his sidekick Stereotype...

I think I'm getting too old to enjoy the adventures of the renegade galifreyan these days... maybe when I have kids and they grow old enough, I'll find it interesting again.

I reckon the ones with UNIT were definitely the best. From the old days.

Martha Jones is a 2dimensional character with really bad dialogue
Rose Tyler - the basis of my "sidekick called Stereotype" joke... a total let-down.
Catherine Tate was brilliant (to use the doctor's favourite adjective)
I hope they make his next assistant a 30 year old muslim, with a beard... time to start knocking this stereotype and fear of such individuals on the head!

For a lot of people being asian or muslim is actually a crime in itself, and "travelling whilst asian" is definitely increasingly getting treated as a basic misdemeanour!!

Actually, there were 3 actresses that played the part of the Doctor. But none of them were really official. Joanna Lumley appeared in the Comic Relief spoof Doctor Who episode 'The Curse of Fatal Death' as the final incarnation of the Doctor; Arabella Weir performed in Exile, a Doctor Who audio play, as an alternate female version of the Doctor; and most recently in Journey's End, Catherine Tate, who plays Donna Noble, temporarily became Time Lord "DoctorDonna" when her mind got fried with the knowledge and memories of the Doctor. ( my fave )

Yeah, I really like Tennant as the Doctor. Unfortunately, he will be stepping down in 2009.

I know this young arab woman who for me will always be the real Doctor Who - even now she's probably in Palestine or some other place of trouble, fixing things the way only the doctor knows how.

But I shouldn't talk about her... don't wanna jinx it. However, with her at the tardis's helm, I'd be the doctor's companion any day, and face any number of daleks or cybermen with her.

I reckon the next doctor NEEDS to be a woman, though - on telly. A statement must be made. In Britain women's rights are still not what they should be, particularly in employment, government and other key areas.

Doctor Who is a programme ideal for spreading radical new ideas, and having a woman in charge of the tardis, though perfectly reasonable to most women, if they thought about it, remains unheard of by society itself.

I loved that comic relief episode where the Doctor turns into Lumley and goes off with the Master!

The doctordonna thing wasn't much of an incarnation, besides which it costs her the right to be in any more shows!

I think that the female characters in recent series's were pretty lame - either too barbie-doll or too macho - no actual genuinely strong females apart from Tate - Piper and Ageyman were both, whether because of their scripts or acting or both, very very low quality role models for women. Sarah Jane is a good example of what a proper female companion was like - and I expect it was the influence of her Doctors that made that possible - both Baker and the geyser what played Worzel Gummidge seemed to come across as very egalitarian doctors, but then they were from a time when people thought things like gender equality really could be achieved "soon" - a time that soon gave way to the silicon revolution and the modern spate of Thatcherite industrialism.

Lumley is an excellent feminist - Abfab is a greater work of art than the mona lisa, to me. And her 2 partners in crime are just as talented - Sawallha (if that's how to spell it) and Saunders.

I'm sure before I die we'll see a genuine female Doctor, but until that day I'm pretty bored of the whole doctor who thing.

There is a new female in the mix that is the Doctor's daughter.. I suspect that she may get a spin off as a young Doctor in learning.. It was actually a sort of cool episode.. Just can't be troubled to look it up ;p

It was simply called "The Doctor's Daughter" and I agree, that was a cool episode.

What's really cool is that the actress that played the part is the real-life daughter
of Peter Davison, who played the 5th Doctor back in the 80s.
