He means, dear qwerty, that in this arena the rule of "give an inch and they'll take a mile" becomes more like "give a nanometre and they'll take about 5 galaxies {and a dairy milk... just kidding}".
By the way are you part of tefl? I suppose it's very valuable for people in the third world to learn English so they can advance financially (and otherwise) in an English-language dominated commercial world. Hope that's working out for you anyway. Don't worry about this forum - this is one of the least rigid, most unfascist forums I've ever seen, and anyone here knows, I've already seen 1000s of forums and will spend the next two years seeing 10s of 1000s more. As long as you don't try and post links to things which make money for you (other than in your signature), you can more or less say anything the hell you want and these guys will be okay with it.
This is quite rare:
Forums are usually run by self-important petty tyrants with no other talents, whereas webmaster-talk is run by talented professional web developers with numerous talents between them, and the biggest one I find on this forum, as opposed to other sites, even techie sites where there is a LOT of good programming info, is that here on w-t, there seems to be a good knowledge of how to make money properly (and legitimately) on the internet. That's why I came here and why I post here and what I find most useful on this site.
Even a lot of the spammers actually know what they're doing! (Ah, the subtle layers of humour come together to form the perfect ecommerce-consultancy lasagne...)
There's a LOT of people who join forums, you see, in order to just post one thread and then run off. They put an advert in that thread and that advert makes money for them - they are too busy posting at 1000s of forums to stop and post more than one, often annoying, thread. They may return, in another spam cycle, but that's about the size of it. If you prevent them starting a thread, or say posting a url, until post 5 or 15, or something, you generally cause such a spammer to throw their hands in the air and run off to the next target on their spreadsheet, perhaps marking your forum with a "N" for "not a fertile place for spam".
ok right i can understand and yes i do run a forum and have run forums in the past as well. ive implemented a rule like this myself before but i found that the mjority of people that joined just to post a few links would just reply 10 say as many posts as they needed to, to get their post count up and then post what they wanted to.
leaving so many posts behind that are not helpful at all.
anyway its yr rules i just wanted help with something very simple and now i have to make 15 posts before i can post that......
i would just like to add... lol
ive been looking through the forum here and i look forward to being a member and learning a few things and i believe the help i need to be here so thanks for avin me aha
