Simple, list your best stories of the less computer savy folks.

- "Ok, so we need to re-name the url (From "file:///C://Doc.../index.html") to "www.dalas4me.com", can we do that?"

Back in 2002 and 2003 I used to work for a cable modem provider in the Kingwood, Texas area. The dispatcher gave me a service order to go out to these peoples houses to see why they could not get on the internet.

When I arrived, the elderly couple showed me where the cable modem was at. They had a computer acting as a firewall. There was no hardrive, no CD rom, no nothing but a mother board, floppy drive and 2 network cards.

Ok, so I had to ask, "who set this up for you?" The couple told me their grandson installed some kind of Linux firewall after they were raided by the FBI. The story got a little deeper. These people were in their 60's or 70's and they were raided by the FBI??

It seems that someone hacked their computer and turned it into an FTP server. The stuff that was being hosted was nude pictures of children. The local sheriffs department and the FBI raided their house thinking the elderly couple was the ones that set the server up.

After the arrest warrants were served, computer seized and everyone was brought "down town" it was clear that neither person had the knowledge of how to set up an FTP server. They did not even know what FTP meant.

They laughed about the incident, but I did not find it too funny. Anyway, something was wrong with the firewall system, so I told them to have their grandson check things out.

In 1999 I had a co-worker in the NYS Attorney General's Office tell me that my work computer crashed because I changed the color of the desktop.

Some guy, i read, asked his techie friend to give him a copy of the internet on a floppy disk! He had a computer - not plugged in to any modem or ethernet or anything - just a computer and a disk drive, and he wanted the internet for his computer, so he asked for the whole thing on a floppy disk.

Another story - something I witnessed myself - a woman in a photocopy shop complaining that the copier had changed the spelling on her page - what makes it even more amazing... it was handwritten!!!

oh and this one will really make the true technorati laugh their heads off (or weep at how sad the world is)... LOADS OF PEOPLE use microsoft products. Can you believe that one?

wayback in 2006, I used to work as a technical support representative in a contact center. I had this call and the customer said, "My computer has no life, I think it is already dead?!?"
