Thought I would give everyone an update on my brat. DarkLink is officially enlisted in the Army. He received his Army id and basic training information today. He will leave for basic training on April 13 at Fort Benning, GA.

He should finish basic right around his 19th birthday.

Congrats to him on his decision. I hope you're doing ok with it Kandi, but I know you think he's making the right decision and now we can all be proud of him for the service he'll be giving to his country and all who live there.

We should all be proud of him for his decision to serve our country. Any word about what his specialization will be, what tech school he'll attend when he leaves basic?

I'm getting better with it

. From Kaity's post she isn't completely thrilled with her brother's decision. I'm sure our fears are no different from any other military families fears.

He is going to be Radio and Communications Security Repair. He didn't say much about it, but I did some reading. What I read said that the ASVAB score required to qualify for it is one of the highest requirements. After basic at Fort Bennington he is going to Fort Gordon for the specialization training.

Update

I see I never corrected the date in this thread. For the past 2 months we have been preparing for him to leave on April 30. Today we got word that he will leave April 26.

That sucks. I know it's only 4 days, but I'm sure you would have liked to have him home those 4 extra days.

Yes, I would have liked him home for those 4 days, but in a way it's better this way because I won't have to take a vacation day to see him off

Well, technically, as soon as you sign the papers you are the property of the U.S. Government.

Property yes, but not a enlisted soldier in the Army, just a mere civilian recruit. ^^

I've been there, done that so. :P

But still grats though. ;D
