I totaly aggree with the article writer.
Open source advocates tend to rely too much of the "religiousness" of the open source concept.
Going too far in that way, they loose ground with the reality that most of the user of open source software (users, not contributors) don't care about the open source ideals.
They are looking for a product that can help them to achieve something.
I'm pro open source, but I work as an ms sql dba, and I have to say that I like this db engine.
I haven't seen major flaws, not features that would led me to drop postgresql for private projects, but the product is good.
I found way more harmfull to stand on your conviction because of a religious point of view than readjusting your approach based on the facts.
For me, the first one is called idealism, when the second is realism.
