I can forgive ESL people for poor grammar and spelling. After all, they are taking the initiative to learn a language that isn't their mother tongue. However, I do not understand why native speakers use horrible grammar and spelling. Do they not realize it makes them seem unintelligent?
well i'm not a native speaker, but i'm soing my best
however i do not have a lot of time to check everything and i misstype many times

Personally Neorunner I try to do my best with the grammar and spelling, probably from old school where they pounded English usage into our heads. Also helps to have a speller added into the browser.
As for native speakers, no I don't see anyone being unintelligent using improper grammar or spelling, perhaps proper English usage wasn't their forte in school. One doesn't have to have a "PhD" after their name to be intelligent.
My attitude toward people, let them be who they are, who are we to change them? Just enjoy each other.
English language is a widely used language, meaning this is the language used by most of the people all over the world. It's very important to learn because it use in communication and we will not be able to talk or understand other person especially if they are living to other countries.
I can forgive misspelled words every now and then. Sometimes we're in a rush and don't double check our spelling/grammar. As log as it aint lke tis bRoDiZzlE. That is bloody annoying.
A lack of proper grammar and spelling is unprofessional. Native speakers of English have no excuse for not knowing or using both. Those learning English often look to native speakers for examples of use, and I shudder at what examples they're being given, and at the daily examples I see of how our language is being butchered.
Those who grew up in the nineties and on, however, in many areas were never taught spelling. Spelling and phonics were eliminated from many curricula around that time, in favor of "creative spelling" and "whole language" reading instruction. I myself know of teachers who were threatened if they tried to keep teaching the old way. The fact that companies like Hooked on Phonics and Sylvan are doing well even in a recession attests to the failure of such curricular changes. But along with those changes came a general feeling of apathy toward education, one that I feel has been engineered. Indeed, who cares if we don't know proper grammar, correct spelling, how to do simple arithmetic in our heads? Skewlz dum ennyhow, init? All wes gon do iz werk inna faktry enyway, rite?
