Stupid doctor

I have and still am under the weather, possibly looking at an ear surgery.
My ear has been bothering me on and off for a few weeks, on April 16th I had a doctor's appointment. She told me I had an infection inside the ear and put me on an antibiotic. I might add here when I went in to see the doctor, I could hear perfectly out of the ear and no pain. For 6 pills the bill was $31.46 at Wal-Mart Pharmacy, I might add this was a generic brand.
Friday I felt a little better, went to bed that night and woke up at 5 AM with horrible pain in my ear, I thought my head was going to explode. I guess part of it did!
Sunday morning I found dried blood in my ear. Now I try to call the doctor up, well another doctor was on call, he told me probably the ear ruptured and this can be mended, you don't need urgent care, if you aren't feeling better call your doctor up and sometime during the week you can see the doctor.
Monday morning was a complete run around, but finally got in to see the doctor in the afternoon, and she admitted she didn't put me on a strong enough antibiotic, and the eardrum ruptured. I might add here, I couldn't hear out of that hear, when I talked it was like talking in a tunnel and I felt terrible. In fact she looked at the ear twice and under her breath she said, "oh my gosh, it's all full of stuff inside." She prescribed a stronger antibiotic, 20 pills and the bill was $4. If this doesn't work the next step is a specialist and they do surgery on the ear.
I am very angry and cranky at this point in time, but with the advice of my husband, he feels she is the one who saw me in the first place it's her responsibility to see it through to it's conclusion and then deal with this later.

I'm so sorry you are in such pain Giselle!!
I had a terrible ear infection a few years ago too. Try warm damp wash cloth on your ear. It will relieve some of the pressure and drain your ear canal some, thereby relieving some of the pain. The warmer the washcloth is, the better without burning yourself of course.
I will keep you in my prayers!

Thank you Kandi! Perhaps say an extra few prayers so I don't strangle the doctor when I see her again this coming Monday!
Unfortunately I can't get any water in the ear at all because it's all open inside. She told me to buy wax ear plugs so no water can be inside at all, because I wondered how I was going to wash my hair, I still haven't washed hair, maybe I will brave it tomorrow. She even told me not to use any kind of hair spray, which I don't.

You just want the wash cloth damp...not wet. We have rice bags that actually work better. They are just flannel material sewn in a square, filled with white rice. You microwave them and they retain the heat. Works great for ear infections and migraines

What kind of infection does your ear have? Your doctor said it has stuff inside, can she not pumped it away or is it really that terrible? I had my right ear checked last month for I couldn't hear clearly as well, there's a pimple or something and the doctor gave me antibiotic for it.

Thank you Kandi, I am now placing a warm washcloth not over the ear, but as close to the ear as I can which rests on face as close I can get to the ear, which has been three times already!
I never asked Clarisse what kind of an infection it was, all the doctor said last Thursday it was red inside and it was an infection. On Sunday morning I placed my finger not inside my ear but on the outside, a huge piece of dried blood fell unto my finger. I had my husband take the flashlight and look, he seen more pieces of dried blood inside the ear. So apparently that's what the doctor seen also, but her response when she looked twice into the ear "was all kinds of stuff," and I know she was completely shocked. The bottom line here she didn't prescribe the right antibiotic which she admitted to me. Apparently it must be that terrible because she warned not to get any water in the ear at all, otherwise the water will go right through. Not what does that mean? I was a bit too shocked to even ask what that meant or what could happen or where would the water go through to.
I couldn't agree with you more Simi, these were my exact feelings on Sunday and Monday morning, find another doctor. My husband advised me it's her responsibility to see this through as quickly as possible, and not to delay anymore time trying to find another doctor/specialist and schedule another appointment. Due to my medical coverage, I don't have a lot of options also, and that's another issue that I am doing a slow burn over. I am not taking this lightly, will address this issue after the ear is healed.
Thank you all for your concerns, you have no idea how it makes feel!

An old remedy that can help is to warm up some sweet oil (the medicinal name for olive oil) and put that on a cotton ball in the ear. It can draw infection out, as well as help with discomfort.

Gosh Tim I wish I had known that remedy over a week ago, I no doubt would be all right instead of the shape I am in now, along with Kandi's remedy. Thank you, much appreciated!
Thank you for your warm wishes Steph! I agree with you completely, not every Doctor or Clinic will see me or my husband due to the medical coverage, that's the dilemma right now for us. Now if I paid in cash like I used to, I could be seen by anybody I wanted and have top drawer service. Shall this through to the end, and go from there.

I hope things get better for you. I also hope that your insurance will let you switch doctors. It sounds to me like yours needs to go back to med school!

Thank you for your warm get well wishes, Suresh! I am feeling much better today, having followed the advice of Kandi with the warm washcloth remedy and it's helping.
Actually Steph, this doctor is a bone specialist, Orthopedics, this wasn't my choice at the clinic. A good GP would have known how to treat this and prescribe the proper antibiotic in the first place. It's not the medical coverage, it's the doctors and some of the clinics refusing to handle people such as ourselves.

I am feeling much better now Simi compared to the beginning of the week or over last week end while being on a very light mild antibiotic. The damage was done last Saturday, I have really no choice but to see it through or see what she has to say on Monday, hopefully the ear is mending itself and no surgery. Thank you for your warm get well wishes.
I can't imagine either Chris how this happened!
