I guess I must be bored b/c I'm jumping in on this one.
I personally drink Diet Mountain Dew -- 2+ liters per day. I have for the last 10 years. (No, I don't have stock in the company, lol.)
I did very quick research on the aspartame metabolism assertioin and found http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/aspar...spartamej.html . The methanol table was very intriguing as tomato juice has 3.5x more methanol.
Probably the wave of future sugars is that plant-based one...Splenda is made from it, right? In its original form, though, it has a very plant-matter-like taste, but I'm sure the chemists have/will figure out why.
Didn't see any mention of teas -- a flavorful, calorie-absent alternative (provided you don't add a bunch of crap to it). I love Earl Grey on that subject.
As for the claim about aging, I have no idea where that comes from, but at 32, I have pretty much always been told that I look younger than I am.
