A friend of mine wants to go to Florida for a week-end trip, but has a couple of dilemmas:

1. The trip will only be for a weekend (will take the train on a thursday, and return by plane sunday around middle afternoon ( @ 5pm )

2. She doesn't know anyone in the area, but will be utilizing the time to look in the area for a possible move into that location (West Coast -- Tampa / St.Petersburg vicinity).

What would be the best choice for taking this trip as far as saving money is concerned? Should she find a room-mate or rent a hotel? How can this trip be worth-while as far as the money is concerned, or is it just a waste if going for only 3-days?

Oh yeah, what is a 'safe-amount' of money to bring if she is going alone.

Thanks!

Why not visit Hollywood? She can spend time touring there.

Priceline! Bid for a hotel on Priceline.

I went to Miami last year, stayed at the InterContinental downtown (overlooking the ocean) for $75/night.

Again going to Orlando this month, will be staying at Raddison resort 1.5km from Disney for $40/night.

i know there's a site out there called couchsurfers or something like that for people who open up their houses to passing tourists to help them save some money. i think they charge like $5 to stay or something. not including food. a friend of mine did it when he was going over to ireland and a few other places in europe, it worked out great for him. but it sounds a bit off to me, but i guess it depends on how open you are to other people and how much you wanna save

Being from the Sunshine state, I'd recommend avoiding a move to Tampa. It kinda sucks.

Stuff to see, Bush Gardens is pretty cool. The beach is ok but, waaaaay better on the East Coast.

Want a fun redneck adventure? Rent a car and go to Silver Springs the glass bottom boats are pretty cool.

Be sure to find some alligator wrestling. Nothing like watching a guy, missing half his teeth and one hand, wrestling a gator.

Holidays to Florida do not have to be about Disney World or Sea World. It could be about adventure and seeing equipment that are off the beaten road. The one place to waste the full day is at the Miami Zoo. The animals and exhibits are amazing to consider

Not to mention the Everglades? It's a place that I only want to visit ONCE, and I did, so bye bye Everglades... until they put giant gators in the water that would chase the airboats to make the trip more adventurous, exciting, and fun! Seriously, that place is BORING!

Wolf, you got it, it's about trust. Just like credit cards, ebay, etc. You gotta shop smart, and use various tools and indicators to gauge safety rating. I know you still can't get over those three little pigs that didn't trust you, but you ARE the serial killer!

I have no idea about how much money is needed. It depends on her lifestyle. Living in a hotel would be a good choice. Can you post some pictures of Florida after she comes back?
