A local news station got called and did a story on a mother who allegedly found her 3 yr old son wondering in the parking lot to the pre-school. She claimed that when she pulled into the parking lot her son was wondering around with no adults in sight. My 5 yr old just graduated from that pre-school today. There is so much controversy about this woman and her credibility now that she tried to ruin the reputation of the school. People are saying that she did not want to pay an early withdraw fee and then this story came out.

For the security of my child, nothing substitutes for my eye -- I watch the place, make unannounced visits, etc. In this case, I'd be very likely to include a GPS device (cell phone?) on her so that if she were ever to stray, I'd be able to see.

Only your arms are a 100% safe place for a child. Anywhere else there is necessarily more risk. Stay on top of things and make sure your child is well-trained to speak up for him/her self and you'll have done as much as you reasonably can.

Also, if she/he just graduated, at least you know they're safe and won't be returning, just in case something is truly wrong at the day care (and it wasn't just the mother lying).

The thing that tears me apart is that I grew up knowing the teachers and everyone else running that school. Trust me I can't have anymore children and I don't just leave her with just anyone. I don't know. This whole thing is just crazy.

Update....
The woman who called the news actually found her son standing on a picnic table being supervised by his teacher. It was all a publicity stunt. The school is well respected in the community.

That's really shocking! It's always difficult to give your child in other hands, but as my experience tells me, the best babysitter for your child is you!

This story was found to be a lie. The mother in this story owed the school money and wanted to take her child out of school early and did not want to pay the fees so she made up this story and called the news.

The NEWS gets a story and runs it into the ground, I hate that. So your little one will be starting public school this year? Oh Boy Kindergarden! kiss her for me or him.
