I have tried many times in the past to try and start a community, one like this for example.

All attempts I have failed.

It's just hard to find members because when you start a new forum and there and there are only like 3 members, nobody wants to join.

I need some tips on starting a forum.

Content, content, content. Provide something no one else can, or do it better. Simple.

Good luck!

can I ask what's the niche of the forum?

there is some software you can by to populate the forum with loads of automated posts. Spammy, sure, but might help get things going...

I suggest you to keep on promoting your forum. Another is, make your forum, a spam free place for the members. You can also make some promotions in recruiting new members.

I hope it helps.

First, you should ask yourself, what's your forum selling point??

Why people come to u??

Then provide what can to your vistors!

Do a bit of research, discuss with friends and pick an interesting topic to start the (discussion)forum on.

Next, gather a team of those willing to help out with the forum.

Once the forum is up and running, get ready to start advertising and spreading the word around !

Sooner or later, your forum will see a rise in new members.

Remember, A forum needs fresh content and efficient moderation to be successful.

Good luck.

I got into message boards at one gaming website several years ago. I was posting 5-10 times a day - definitely was one of the leading posters

Basically, I was one of the topic starters/key users and over time I decided to start up my own site so it was easy for me to get the popular users from that site to join me on my forum and the rest just clicked in place.

Gathering from that. I believe if you're keen on a good start then you really need to be a guru or thereabouts of whatever theme you start-up.

I've seen a few times on WT's review forum where users have started up message boards on web design/coding but when you look at their own website it is quite bad.

If for example; LadyNRed started up her own forum; I would consider joining it since she has easily shown to be one of the key members (knowledge/response etc) here at WT so I guess it comes down to influence and knowledge.
