Seems to me that you didn't write up a good enough contract, perhaps most of this was talked about in person / over the phone before beginning the project? If the latter is true, as in someone who lives nearby you or a close friend (which I don't think they were close friend), then you still need to treat them like they are someone you never *ever* met in your life. Don't let *ANYTHING* slip out, like this:
"Oh, if something doesn't work out to your liking, I will refund your credit"
Remember, YOU are the BOSS, and if they don't like it, don't buy your service...
Also, did you show your client a sample of your work?
These are just a couple of basic things you need to remember, because when you sell your time / creativity / design then you can NOT give a refund.
