Just curious, does any believe there is life after forums? Ok, the web evolves, we have a page with a pretty background color, some text, and the ability to add inline images, then we get a bit more advanced, and have multimedia capabilities, and better networks now we have chat room, blogs, and forums, on high-powered networks.
What will be next?

I heard that some people already have that technology. They use it with Windows 7, and btw, is there something with touch-screens that will be useful with forum technology?

They are working on it
http://www.microsoft.com/surface/
And it's only been 18 months or so since it's release.

Touch screen technology has been around for years, hole in the wall cash dispensers spring to mind.
Yes Win7 has touch screen technology but you still need a touch screen monitor for this to work, and up until recently these have been mainly found just in industrial applications.
We already have touch screen mobile phones, and the next logical step is for touch screens to become standard kit with PC's and laptops - that can't be far down the road.

Where can Internet technology go now?
Probably not very far until somebody develops a way to produce smells to order (stop giggling at the back there!)

Actually, I had a thought of something else like 'touch-air' sort of like the jetsons cartoon where the screen is in front of you in mid-air, and you can point at that! Now how's that for something new?

The technology does exist to make that a possibility, in the form of VR(Virtual Reality) movement detection systems and/or "WII" style controllers.
It just needs a bit of a leap forwards in holographic projector technology. They do need something to project onto though, smoke or water vapour for instance.

lol instead of sending files through our computers via online why not invent something lika a holographic time warp thingy like beam me up scotty in Star Trek kind of thing. That would be much faster than sending it through wires. Well I think that is really the webs future

Hmm. I look at all these "advances" like touch screen and laugh. The Microsoft Surface, for example, is a complete joke with very little practical use. Touch screen laptops highlight that touchscreen technology is best used on small devices like phones etc - on anything bigger, a mouse and keyboard combination works much better, with greater accuracy and faster.

I think sites like Facebook give us a flash of things to come. Greater connectivity between people, as well as other forms of technology. Forums are a great way to debate online and right now I can't see a better way of doing it.
My personal wish is a combination of all the best features of social networking sites without the nonsense. I guess this would be a stripped down Facebook (no stupid "what kind of tree are you" stuff), but with forum type threaded discussions and conversations, plus blogging, news and weather, and most importantly POP email.
hmmm. Maybe I should work on that?

I've come up with a name for the "SmellaVision" idea.
