Anyone taught Dreamweaver?

I've just got a part-time job teaching Dreamweaver and was wondering if anyone had any tips?

So far I have discovered that it is very hard to keep the class interested and I need to bring something 'exciting' to the lessons to show them before hand to get them to follow me into the lesson. But I am running out of things to show them...!

Also I have to give a written multiple choice test. Anyone got any ideas what I can ask for questions? I am a bit wary of making it "what do you press to insert x, y, z?" so anything else would be great!

Thanks

What age are the students?

I teach HTML & CSS, amongst other things, and find that with older people keeping their attention isn't a problem.

The best thing to do is steer clear of too much theory, get cracking and teach them stuff that they can see the point of quickly. In web design, this is putting the CSS design together.

They are 13-15 and really don't want to be here so it is a bit of a battle.

I've not done any theory as they are not native English speakers so best to show them something nice then show them how to re-create it.

Show them some sites that they like, then investigate them to see how they might have been put together. This doesn't apply to Dreamweaver exclusively, but there should be emphasis on the fact that Dreamweaver is only a tool.

Why not create your own online quiz for dreamweaver? There's even self made scripts to do such thing, just not specifically for dreamweaver, but you could change the questions to suit your (students) needs

pick a site they can relate to - a pop artist or something like that, then recreate the site in front of their very eyes! Should be a good class!

Thanks! Some more good ideas.

Just a bit stuck on the questions to use in the test now. Anyone seen any examples of Dreamweaver/software application tests floating around?

You might want to check out the topics of dreamweaver training from Total Training. I'm not saying copy them, but it might give you some good ideas.

One day I went out for a bike ride. There were some students walking to the local high school. They said the high school has a class for web design and Photoshop. I was a bit surprised when I first heard that. I don't know if those classes are mandatory or if they're an elective. I tend to think they would not be mandatory. Either way it's nice that some high schools offer that type of instruction.
