Yes social networking sites are very popular now. It is a map of all of the relevant nodes between all the nodes being studied. The network can also be used to measure social capital.

I don't spend to much time on social networking sites. For some people it replaces the common person-to-person activities - it's insane.

Social Networking plays an enormous role in most people's lives these days. It's great for continuing the shortening of people's attention spans and increasing the amount of useless nonsense and junk in the world, as well as cheapening communication to the point of total irrelevancy...

Case in point - FB status I saw today: "Just having a cuppa before work"

And you need to tell everyone this why???

I personally do not think social networking sites play a big part in peoples lives, some people use them to stay in contact with people they know online, and other people use them to promote their websites, bands or something like that.

And to be honest if you actually join one of these sites you will find out sooner or later that they are really just another way to get email.

Social networks have been a good source for traffic to websites, but its confused with a good source for better SEO. The major social networks include twitter, facebook, friendster etc. and these can bring more traffic to the website through your friend network and fan base for any pages that you have there.

But social bookmarking is another way where you can get traffic along with some targeted backlinks. So don't get confused with social networking and social bookmarking.
Social networking is important not just for your company but also for you to interact with friends, build networks and help each other.

DigitalLinx, with the social networking sites mentioned here and bringing to traffic to one's sites, do people actually sell anything or conduct business? Where does one establish credibility as a business owner whether they have an online or a storefront business?

Youngsters are particularly lured by the social networking sites and it is a great new way to be in touch with your near and dear ones. But when it comes to driving traffic to websites, it is of no use since the traffic is not targeted.

The concept of social networking by sitting in front of a pc or via some other electronic gadget, dilutes the concept of socializing. For the younger crowd in particular, it would seem time could be better spent getting educated. Perhaps society has placed too much emphasis on the importance of talking to other people, 24/7. A good way to lazily spend countless hours a day doing really not much.
