It does not matter what your personal goals are in life, we all know that trying to achieve those goals can be difficult and perhaps even a daunting task.
The problem is not usually in the goal itself but rather in the motivation you have to achieve that goal.If you have ever tried to change something about your life you well understand where I am coming from here. The "experts" all say that it takes 6 weeks to form a habit, but oftentimes we fall short by the time we get into our third or fourth week.

I think it really helps to work or surround yourself with people that inspire you. As a musician, I know I'm much more motivated with that kind of thing when I'm around other musicians and have a lot of music in my life.

With regards to work, motivation can often be much harder to come by. For that I think you need to break your work into reachable targets, and having many, smaller targets makes the goal seem easier to reach, and should therefore increase your motivation to get there.

That's interesting what you wrote about it takes 6 weeks to form a habit. I'm 4 weeks into a new exercise regime... I'll let you know if I make it to week 6!

I think it changes constantly, but you can start to remember (or even write down) methods that worked for you in the past, and keep building on this through your life.

I completely agree Ed. I find my creativity is much inspired when I'm in school. During the breaks I have a tendancy to not work on my artwork unless I'm getting paid for it! And even then I'm not inspired because it isn't really artwork it's designing ads or business cards and those are very limiting.

I also find that when I set smaller goals I am able to reach those instead of the big Pie in the Sky ones! And yeah the smaller ones inspire you to go on.

I also think FEEDBACK is important to inspire or work harder.

I heard that it takes 30 days to develop and new habit - don't know if that applies to breaking a bad one though.

Positive feedback and acknowledgement! Having someone praise your work is very motivating! Being recognised for your efforts. Also, reading up on the success of others can inspire a reactive burst of creative energy

The goal you are trying to reach should be your motivation, i wanted to learn html i studied and learned it same with css and php, and i never had people motivating me actually it was the opposite but i kept doing it because i wanted to learn it.
