i am not a network administrator and sombody is downloading big files on my network, how do i know from which workstation is it.

Try to run a network sniffer like wireshark from the machine that might see all the network (router, bridge, gateway, firewall) to avoid a switch to isolate the traffic.

Launch a capture, and go to "statistics"->"endpoints" to see how many data which computer is transmitting:
