Hi beautiful people, its a nice and sunny day today.

I just would like some feedback, I currently have a girl working for me as a web designer who is a friend and is working for free, she is basically on the same level as me (she is prbably slightly better), we both know html and CSS, but she is working for free because she want to practice and have experience.

I offered to pay her, but she says no because we are friends, but I am feeling guilty because she has done a hell of a lot of work and making me money

What should I do? I have to pay her, but she won't accept, should I just mail her checks? Snatch her purse and put money in it? Tie her down and tell her she better accept the money or she will stay there?

Buy her a meal or a trip to the hairdressers/salon or something similar.

Perhaps a gift card from her favorite department store, clothing store, etc. with maybe a thank you card.

Remember that not everybody feels about things the same way.

Tell her the truth. She is making money for you, and getting nothing back. This is making you are feeling embarrassed. It would be a favour to you, if she would accept some payment.

But, if she (for whatever reasons) really does not want any repayment, then you have to respect her feelings.

By all means offer gifts instead of money, but don't force them on her.

If she doesn't want to get paid for the work then maybe you can ask her to venture into a small partnership. This will allow you to cut her off a piece of the cheese without her whining about getting it.

I had a friend of mine doing development work along side of me, but refused to take payment splits, etc. So I sat him down at a nice dinner, and discussed plans of a partnership into the Web Programming world. He loved it, and we're working just like before - the only difference is, we work as a partnership, and split the efforts.

Hope this is some good Advice for you.

If your friend will not accept your money, take your friend out to lunch or dinner. Maybe you both could go on a trip together. There are alot of things you could do for your friend. Maybe a nice birthday gift. You have a really good friend, for not to accept money from you.

If you're earning money on her work, at the very least go out for decent lunches or always offer to buy the food/drinks/whatever.

Or you can always say, "Oh yeah, this client was sooo pleased with 'our' work that he decided to tip us... but since you're the one who actually made the website, you should get it!" And just hand her some cash.

And who knows, maybe she's not wanting paid, but rather...

Sexy office romance, haha.
