I think a lot of fans who sat through 6 years of the show were putting a lot of faith in the producers that they would connect the dots on more of the unanswered questions.
If you think that the majority of questions were answered by the end of Season 6 , all I can say is that you weren't watching very closely!

I've heard some people try to defend the series with comments like "oh well, those things you mentioned are not really integral to the plot. Why do you need everything explained?" Well I would say, BECAUSE ITS FICTION! Why put it in the story in the first place if you have no intention of letting the audience in on the secret! Otherwise its just a stunt to drive up ratings.
It seems to me that we all assumed more thought went into the plot than actually was the case. By the end of the series it should be obvious that LOST was nothing more than a soap opera melodrama (daddy issues, love triangles blah blah) than some philosophical contest of good vs evil, science vs faith or whatever you ascribe to read into it.
As for the ending, well anybody who took a community college creative writing course will tell you that the first thing taught is that killing all your characters at the end is a cop out. And boring.
The producers half lied to the public at about season 3 when rumours were going around about the plot line involving "purgatory" and they sarcastically "poo pooed" the notion. When in actual fact S6 turned out to be just that!
Finally, I read somewhere the other day that most long running TV series maintain what's called a "Bible". The purpose is to maintain plot continuity and consistently. Well, apparently LOST went the whole of season one before the producers even thought about making a LOST Bible! Which can only lead me to conclude that plot consistency was never something that kept the producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse awake at night. Plus the fact that they have refuse to make the show Bible public can only mean that things were less than air tight and everyone involved in the production knows it....
Anyway, enough Sunday night ranting.
