Would you block a whole country from your website?
I started off with block banning Nigerians that wanted to do advance fee fraud, it takes time but I am slowly blocking the whole of Nigeria from my sites, probably had several hundred Nigerians sign up that want to commit fraud, never had a good one on my site, now I got a similar problem with Indian spammers, I really don't need there, "thanks for the nice post" and crap like that, so would you block a whole country just because some of them are ****?

I am not from India but there is big difference between India and .. ehm .. Nigeria You cannot even compare India to Africa let alone a country in Africa

BTW spammers are everywhere you should know better than this

Blocks with known fraudulent activity, sure, I'd ban them, but one of the largest countries on the planet, with a population somewhere around a billion?

Actually they are not everywhere.
The names banned from this forum (20 today) and the 80 or so deleted threads, come from Indian or Pakistan IPs with just one exception, the credit card number & CVV seller from Maritius.

So I know exactly where Thai is coming from.
If you do run a forum that does not does not need or require participation from these countries blocking them WILL reduce the one line "tnx for post" and other such quality comments accompanied by several links in their signature.

Certainly there are many members here from India and Pakistan who do add greatly to the discussions at this forum but they are always shadowed by the very few and organised spammers.

Well, yeah, and the DVD ripper/phone converter spammers are pretty much all from China, but say I block both countries. That's a third of the planet's population! Surely in a couple billion people there's a few that are legit?

Uncanny timing, I've just block banned Indian IP addresses from a directory I run in an attempt to cut down on crap submissions.

If most of them are spammers, block all the country. I have the same problem in one of my websites.

The smart spammers will find a way to get around it with a proxy IP eventually.

Today the answer is an unequivocal YES to banning Indian and Pakistan IPs.

I logged in two hours ago and (it being Thursday) have banned 15 usernames and deleted something like 80 or so posts) one person was responsible for 26 threads. And 90% of those "members" were "Outsourced muppets" from the aforementioned countries. And these idiots call it "forum work"!!!!!!!!

Hope fully one day these leechers will figure out that WMT isn't worth the effort, because we have a team that can cover the entire 24 hours between us and the spam won't last more than a couple of hours.
Also the obvious sig link post spammers and hosting shills are treated with the same disdain.

I got to admit I am looking more at blocking the whole ip range for India and pakistan, these people are of no use to my website at all and would save me time rather than deleting thier crap afterwards.

The spamming is everywhere man the reason why india name comes is because of population. Say even if only 1% of Indians do spamming then that would mean millions of people.

And a recent study survey revealed USA is 1 in spamming so you would ban usa too? Next you will have to ban uk and then Thailand (uuuups my tongue slipped)

So MR Thai How about you start thinking with your Brain?

They obviously didn't ask many forums where their spam comes from. OR maybe the survey was about EMAIL SPAM!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah! Bugger!

I just seem to have banned our "friend" hanlo2900, from the Phillipines for link dropping a file download referral link.

Would that be classed as ironic do we think?

In my opinion it does make sense to block entire countries/area if the majority of them don't have credit cards and aren't likely to purchase anything; you would just be wasting bandwidth.

email spamming as chris said, in the last 6 months I haven't had to block or ban any posters with USA isp's, not including proxy servers of course, everyday I'm banning Indians and Pakistanis, every single day without fail.
