Hi Guys,

Just wondered ( probably best for uK only residents, but everyones welcome to comment. )

I currently rent my house, They have recently changed the company that looks after their tennants rent deposits..

They have however asked that we pay £20 towards the transfer fee...

Surely this is a bit cheeky no?

It should be up to them to cover our deposit and requiring us to pay more! so they can transfer the company that does it is .. how do i put it... Off?

What ya recon? I know its only £20 but we pay enuf each month as it is!

Thoughts?

Normal practise for letting agents, and £20 sounds cheap. A couple of friends who share a flat had to pay £35 each.

It really isn't good business for the owner/owners to put the extra burden onto the tenants, creates ill feelings. I wonder if the new property manager's % is higher from the last company, could be one of the reasons they put the burden back onto the tenants.

Unfortunately, it's normal practice...

What annoys me more is having to pay a £38 "processing free" every 6 months for renewing the contract to cover their "paper work"

"Ermmm, Change date: Print: Done! £38 Please!"

Same here!

I refused last time. didn't hear anything since..

Surely its their job to do the contracts as its that that they are selling!
The money from my rent doesnt all goto the owner, Some to them.
This should cover that.!

Worse than the banking overdraft charges. Its terrible

Sounds real cheeky to me and most likely illegal in most of the US. But maybe our tenants have more rights than you guys in GB do.
