who is more resistant to pain? Men or women?
The reason I ask is that I have heard it (endlessly) repeated (by women, mind you) that women are far more resistant to pain then men. This assertion
has always struck me as odd since not one of the women who claimed this has provided a half decent argument to support it, yet they believe it
wholeheartedly!
So, who is the more resistant, and why do women always believe it is them?

There are more heroes than heroines...Nowadays, the men like to pet more than women...So, men are more resistant to pain but they don't like to show it

Believe it or not cocunuts come in a nice green smooth husk, this is taken off before shipping, its around 2inches thick so increases the size of the coconut quite dramatically, no need to shave it though
Of course, to make birth more a realistic experiance for a man you could try one of these

Most women believe this because of them having babies, but men can't have babies so people can not honestly know how men would deal with having a baby.
Personally i think men can take more pain than women can.

Women. They can turn off all feelings at will.

I have heard this arguement before too, I must say I have a high tolerance for pain. I've been through a c section (without epideral) which they knocked me out for and then woke me up in the middle of stitching and stapling me. I have been through 2 excrusiating back surgeries which Im allergic to the fentenyl pain patch so I had to endure it with 800 motrin instead. I change oil for a living and I get burned on a daily basis and don't complain! I have had spinal taps and cortesone shots in my spine. So I do believe women can endure more pain! I am a strong woman though! Just the other day I fell hard on a tool rack at work and got up and started putting freight away at work when most people wouldv'e gone home and went to bed. Thanks for your time!

Steph,
While impressive, that's all anecdotal evidence. Scientific proof requires a study involving a test group and specific parameters. Also, it's important to point out the difference between "resistance" and "tolerance" of pain. Because you don't react doesn't mean you don't feel it. Your mind is simply able to shut it out.
Personally, I'm able to "tolerate" high amounts of pain if I'm prepared for it and it's located in a specific area (e.g. my arm). In order to "resist" pain, you'll require nervous system damage, e.g. I can punch just about anything and not feel it, because my knuckles have no feeling in them from years of martial arts training. I once broke my hand in a competition and didn't realize it until it was over. My instructor used to "karate chop" the inside of a door with the side of his hand every day. His hand was like a rock, and he had no feeling in it. But that isn't genetic...
If women are more "genetically resistant" to pain, then they must have less nerves or less brain activity in response to pain indicators, or alternatively a higher endorphin response to compensate. Unless you can prove any of these with a scientific study, any further discussion on this topic is moot.
Cheers.

Neither I would say, it's different from person to person, irrelevant of gender. I have gout, for example, and have been told by a female physician that the pain from an attack can be worse than child birth... and I have to say, it is an excruciating pain when I have an attack...

So definitely a case of "Where there's no sense(s), there's no feeling"
