The Riddle Box [?]

Here is the riddle:

A dead man found in a locked room, hanging from the ceiling 4ft. above the floor, the room is completely empty, except for a puddle of water below him. How did he die?

Obviously, David is correct.

If you were trying to ask how he hung himself, I would say he stood on/stepped off a block of ice and it melted.

How clever you are. I'm just wondering how he hung himself, you just give me the right answer. To be frank, I'm not good at this kind of riddles. Am I lack of imagination?
