Arranged marriages are ok, as long as the woman understands she is the man's slave, and he can cheat on her or add other wives at will.
Love marriages are pathetic, because "true love" is a myth (or at least rare enough that it should be considered impossible to obtain), and so guys fool themselves into falling for women who they're not perfectly compatible with... only to find out later that they want every woman EXCEPT the one they picked.
After 5 years, the romance is gone, the woman uses the kids and threats to keep the man "honest", and everyone is miserable.
After 10 years, the husband is cheating secretly, the kids are in school, and if the woman isn't cheating, she's lost and alone... maybe she takes up yoga.
After 20 years, the kids are in college, the husband and wife either come to an understanding that their relationship is a mutually understood farce, or opt for a divorce finally...
After 50 years, the couple finds humor in the idiosyncrasies of their lives... they sit in rocking chairs telling stories of how they never did the things they wanted in life. (secretly because they sacrificed their lives for the wrong person).
Honestly, I believe women are nesters, and will nest with any man who provides the proper structure and support. I'm all for arranged marriage... or alternatively, the elimination of marriage completely from our culture. It's ultimately only good for the kids, anyway, and usually gives them a false sense of hope about what marriage really means (only prolonging the institution).
