I know this question highly depends on the owner of the forum, but is it likely that many forums (of any topic) backup their threads / topics? I thought it would be great if you could go back to messages that were posted like 10 or more years ago. I would like to see threads that were posted long ago from people who were just starting out in programming for example, and see what kind of messages they were thinking at that time vs. how good of a programmer they are today.

There is no need to use a backup; all the threads are there. The PHP forum has threads going back to 2004:
