then again i havent downloaded it and tried it yet maybe i should before I pass judgement on a nice demo
in fact I would download it now but you require a bunch of personal information, from one net surfer (or world traveler) to another im sick of entering my personal information. In fact I have decided to try to not do it as much as possible, hence less spam, junk mail, tella whatevea....

seriously why do you need to know all that, are you saying if i decided to help you on the side of the road i would have to devulge all that information.....

so why should I to test a demo or download a "free/ bata" program.....seriously why? anyone?

granted if you are paying for said program you need to devulge payment, hence that is an ok reason, but why for something that is supposedly "free" or a "beta". IMHO I see it like this, it would be more beneficial to programers and the like....not to require so much personal information, possibly (again IMHO) more people would download your "product"

I dunno, but what I do know is I'm sick of giving out rediculous amounts of personal information, granted half the time I give out fake information I mean who doesnt....so why even bother asking for it?????....I dunno, what do you think?

There are a multitude of reasons that programmers need all that information, or maybe a lot of it:
  • to see by location who they have reached
  • to see by experience/job/etc. who will be testing/trying the product
  • to be able to contact those that test for more information/testing
  • and of course, to be able to market their product to those that have tested it
  • etc.
I'm sure there's other reasons, and maybe some excuses, to have all that information. If you don't want to give it out, it may be time not to test it.

However, it does seem that there is a lot of information that is given just to get something.

Oh I agree that sometimes it should be necessary, and I have no problem with giving out a zip code or taking a survey. But they do not need to know my address a zip code or state would be fine for demographic purposes....

Market research is one thing, but if they arent sending anything to where I live they dont need my home address and in the the day an age of telemarketers they dont need my phone number. I just think its ridculous how much information is requested of people out there, Big Brother would be to easy to do.

Plus im just ranting, and I had a fe be-has.

I'd think that a zip code, name, and email would be enough for any downloads. I really don't like giving out more because a few places use that for everything! And it depends on what I want to download on how much info I'll give.

I was inquiring about a script the other day, and the only info required was my name and email. Thankfully, they have not bombarded my inbox with tons of email.
