Hi,

I would like to start a discussion about content syndication and RSS. Below are few questions I would like to discuss with you. I also invite you to complete the StepWebz content syndication survey for webmasters and bloggers that you will find at the following address:

http://www.stepwebz.com/rss_and_cont...ion_survey.asp

The results of the survey will be available on this forum and on StepWebZ.com.

If you haven’t heard about Content syndication or Web syndication here is a definition from Wikipedia.
Content syndication or Web syndication is a form of syndication in which a section of a website is made available for other sites to use. This could be simply by licensing the content so other people can use it, but more commonly these days web syndication refers to making Web feeds available from a site so other people can display an updating list of content from it (for example one's latest forum postings, etc.). This originated with news and blog sites but is increasingly used to syndicate any information. (Source: wikipedia.org)

Are you satisfied with the services available to generate revenue from RSS feeds?

QUESTIONS
Do you know what content syndication is? (Yes)

Do you offer RSS feeds on your site or blog? (sort of)

News readers
Do you use syndication buttons such as My Yahoo, Newsgator, My Google… on your site or blog? (no)

Do you think there is a need for a universal syndication button allowing users to directly subscribe to RSS feeds with the news reader of their choice? (no) -- but if that ever happens the user needs to be able to at least copy the hyperlink for the RSS feed.

Sharing your content
Do you allow your visitors to syndicate your content on their own blog or site? (no)

From your own experience, making your content available for syndication has had a positive impact on your content visibility, website traffic, search engine positioning and ranking, on-line user experience? ( I can't say -- I provided a RSS reader to support round-trip hyperlinks with merge functions of the MTML browser, Intuition 1.6.)

What do you see as the main benefits of sharing your RSS content with other sites?
Increase content visibility (yes)
Increase website traffic (yes -- if browsing in Intuition.)
Optimize search engine positioning and ranking (no)
Improve on-line user experience (yes)
Earn money (yes)
Other (direct merge file function)

Do you provide your visitors with the web tools they need to syndicate and republish your RSS feeds on their site or blog? (no)

Why would you NOT make your content available for syndication? (not sure)
Copyright and intellectual property issues (no problem)
You don’t want your content to be republished by others ( want control to be with Intuition users arena. That's why Intuition has its own reader)
You don’t know how to do it (n/a)
You don’t see any benefits (not so)
Other (n/a)

Do you think that webmasters and bloggers are being offered the right tools to facilitate the syndication of their content? (yes & no)

In your opinion, what services or tools would you like to have in order to share your content with others? (If I ever think of it for Intuition I will add it if I can)

Content monetization
Do you think RSS feeds should be monetized? (perhaps ad-space, but that breaks XML compliances for type, my two cents)

Are you satisfied with the services available to generate revenue from RSS feeds? (RSS generates traffic to your website, true in Intuition if your MTML file is on-line also.)

Do you plan to include ads into your RSS feeds? (not sure how)

Do you think ads are the right solution to monetize RSS feeds? (yes)

Would you be interested in licensing your syndicated content to other sites? (only if in Intuition format, one track mind at work here.)

In your opinion what would be the most appropriate way to monetize RSS feeds?
Sponsoring (yes)
Licensing (no)
Advertising (yes)
Subscription fee (no)
