The main sweetener in soda high-fructose corn syrup can increase fats in the blood called triglycerides, which raises the risk of heart problems, diabetes and other health woes.

I stopped drinking soda about 5 years ago. I lost 20 pounds the first week I didn't drink it.

I fear this information isn't enough to quell my quench for soda Though I've taken to drinking that Coke "C2", perhaps it's a bit better

That's rough, and diet sodas are probably no better because they have a lot more chemicals in them. Recently I've cut down to one soda a day, and I've been drinking a lot of green tea, which is good with a little honey in it.

I still drink soda, plus I live dangerously, I won't eat or drink any diet stuff. Have neither gained nor lost weight by drinking soda.

I've been meaning to give up fizzy drinks... but always run into lack of interesting alternatives. I just had a look and the exotic juice drink I like, and even apple juice, has more calories in it than coca-cola! what's up with that??

Fruit is generallly not very good for you. The acidity is damaging to teeth and the sugars are high (though they are "good" sugars opposed to sweeteners).
The only things that are good for you in fruit is the vitamins and fiber.
If you can, and if you want to, you should look into vegatable juices, they are very good for you, you could drink them alll day and they will only ever do you good.
Cabbage and sprout juice anyone? Yummy...
Or drink water. After a while youl start enoying the taste of water. It's really nice.

I gave up drinking traditional soda, instead I drink seltzer water. It gives you the carbonation, wich I found accounts for most of my addiction to soda, just none of the other stuff.

Does anyone drink any of those energy drinks? Monster, Red Bull etc?
I used to drink Red Bull a lot, but it's probably one of the most unhealthy things one could drink so I gave it up. I really like Bawls, though, I grab a bunch of bottles every once and a while.

A more recent study also shows that drinking sodas leaves you perenially in short supply of quarters and one dollar bills, dealing a serious blow to the strip bar industry. Several strippers have recently filed suit against the soft drink industry trade group citing problems with men having no $1 bills due to their inflated soda drinking during the day. "This is a serious #@*ing problem!" said Tiffany Sultry, an exotic dancer from Kansas City. "How are we supposed to make a living when the only thing these guys are bringing to the bar are belches from the pop they drank on the way over? It's outta control!"
Calls to the soda companies resulted in several "No comments." The case is expected to go to the Supreme Court.
