Hello everyone this is my first post. I stumbled across this forum while trying to find out if I can do anything about some one using my email address to send out viruses.

A couple of days ago I started getting emails saying a message I sent was "rejected because it contained a virus called W32.Sobig.F@mm". I didn't send out a virus to anyone and do not know any of the recipients who received the virus. I just keep getting returned messages saying my message was rejected. Has this happened to anyone else? Can I do anything about it? I thought about changing my email, but I can't really do that because it is a business email address.

you should update your virus info, and then scan for viruses

I use Norton Antivirus and it is up to date. I don't think the virus that's being sent out has anything to do with me other than some person is using my email address as the sender/reply to address.

My computer also does a weekly scan for viruses and I haven't found anything.

Don't worry about it. This is one of the things that Sobig does. It sends out messages to random e-mail addresses in the user's address book, but also From random addresses in the same address book. So if someone you know has you in their address book, you will most likely get some of these.

I got about 100 yesterday, all from one university. I can only assume that someone there had the virus and I was in their address book.
