I haven't built a computer in years but it looks like I might have to soon - my custom built one from about 4 years ago is finally on it's way out...
Where do people go for good deals on parts these days?

I've got a couple of places to look, but just wondering if there's any cheaper places I don't know about...

Oh yeah, and preferably within the UK as well... don't want to pay US shipping costs.

I have been shopping for part at tigerdirect.com. But I am in the same boat. It has been years since I have built a whole unit and I need on quick. I will be looking in to barebones and what not this week.

You might want to check out newegg.com - I've had a roomate who used to buy a lot from them.

Newegg.com is great.

i've visited a few of their warehouses in California - very awesome operation they've got going on there.

and to think that in 2004, they spent abilt 3million dollars in the first quarter on marketing.

*thumbs up*

I've purchased is the past from:

http://www.newegg.com
http://www.tigerdirect.com/
http://www.computers4sure.com/
http://www.amazon.com
http://www.ubid.com
http://www.techforless.com

http://www.pcconnection.com also seems to have good reviews.

After finding what I want, I almost always use one of the comparison shopping centers though.

Sorry, can't help with UK parts suppliers, but NewEgg is fantastic, and ship very quickly, sometimes in a few hours!

Ok this is what I do...I and a A+ crazy networking friend of mine have built quite a few computers (I mention the networking cuz he tends to have me overbuild my machines...not that it is bad...lol...)

Any who....This is what I recommend...

Use EBay, check products find out what ya want then Google the product... Google will give you newegg.com, pricewatch.com, mwave.com, you-name-it-buy-it-here.com...plus it will also hook you up with reviews...Do this then go back to EBay refine your search repeat spend some time get the right stuff at the best price...

This method has worked for me....EBay is def trustworthy if you are careful I have bought thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment off eBay with no problems... oh and I have probly saved thousands more....

Bottom line

Ebay and Google are your friends....
Any questions let me know I'm a bit of a hardware junky

IMO Tigerdirect is over priced... Sometimes Newegg is too...However they are good starting points...but always GOOGLE the product I mean right down to the part number...You will get a plethora of places to buy it at, a whole bunch of reviews, and you can then better judge if someone is ripping you off...

Basically you have to invest some time to get good prices, quality parts, a system you want, and will be happy without wanting to kick your own arse...

Resist the compulsive buy it now urges...

Tiger Direct does, however, give good weekly discount offers
