I am interested in copyrightingmy website layout. The only thing is, is that I can't find a solid price for how much it would cost.

I've heard from one of my friends, yeochins on AIM (he owns php-ZeroNet and PZN-Designs) that it costs a total of around $5000 for complete copyright and protection.

But then, I've heard also that it is only $30 to get something copyrighted.

I was just wondering if anyone who has previously copyrighted anything could confirm a price for me.

Hi Smoking Taguila.

The US copyright office has only a $30 fee. The c-site service has a $13 fee for the forms processing for a total of $43. You can find this on http://www.godaddy.com

Hopes this helps.

Thanks Thud.

I can't help but wonder where my friend came up with $5000...

$30 is the correct fee. You might not really want to bother doing this, though. Every work you create is copyrighted by law, registering it simply gives you more protection. Unless you are willing to involve lawyers (and possibly courts) to defend your copyright it's probably not worth registering it.

One way you can use to prove your ownership of a design is quite clever, and very cheap. Simply print out the design and post it to yourself. When you receive the design in the post, don't open it. If you ever need to defend your copyright, you have a sealed and dated envelope showing when you created it.
