I’m kind of new to creating an actual professional website with complicated features built in but I’m pretty sure what I want isn’t too difficult.
  • One thing I want to do is allow registered users to upload files onto my web space. Is this easier said than done? (files will range from about 2 mb to 100 mb)
  • I want people to be able to register because they would have to sign in before purchasing anything. The registration process would have to include their credit card number. How do I create a database for users to sign up and have their credit card pay directly to the company bank account (or company credit card if that’s easier) whenever a transaction is made?
The website is being built in Dreamweaver MX if you need to know.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh BTW, I don’t know much about coding so any way to get around that would be excellent.

You might be able to get away with doing it entirely on free scripts, but I never use pre-made scripts myself so I wouldn't know which ones to use.

The first thing you need to find out is what server side scripting language and database your server uses.

If you want to handle credit card details, you have a number of options. PayPal can accept credit cards into your paypal account, they charge a couple of % on each transaction. Also you have to redirect the user to paypal which looks a little unprofessional.

The other option is a merchant account and payment gateway. You'll need to do your research here - it's an expensive option and you need to be taking quite a lot of orders to be able to justify the expense.

Does paypal only take a small percentage (the 2.9 % or whatever it is) when excepting payments or does it also take an extra transaction fee? This is important becuase each payment will range from $.080 - $5 averaging about $2 per transaction. I don't mind a small percentage fee subracted from the small amount of money but if theres also a 30 cent fee or something that would be bad.

Yeah I think it does. Not sure of the exact amount, you'll have to check their site.

We just pass on this charge to the customer
