are there any books on how to manage a server?

I am open to whatever OS is the cheapest one that is widely used.

There's loads. But managing a server is a huge task and all aspects of it couldn't be covered in just one book. Also, it depends what the server is actually going to be doing. Web, mail, DNS, database, Application, File server...

it will be for personal uses for at liest 2 months. im not running anything mission critical
