This is my first extended down time since i signed up over a year ago. I don't know what to do! I can't even log on to my host's site to send a support ticket. I have emailed them and still no response. One of my sites has been down for 24 hours and the other... well, sometime overnight it also became unavailable. This is bad timing, as i just released my newest site yesterday. I promoted the site for about 5 hours, emails and such. Ends up, all of these people i was trying to get to the site won't even be able to see it. Is there something more i can do? If i do get back online any time soon, i'll feel like i have been screwed out of a portion of my potential audience. And, i had nothing to do with it. Is there any further action i should take if i do get back online?

It depends, who is your host? Do they have a phone number you can call?

Called them and had to leave a message because their "operators" were buisy. You know what's funny about this... the site i made public yesterday had a credit line to Anywherehost. I gave them credit! Crap! I also submitted something here at wembaster talk to a design contest. The page can't be viewed because i put all the files on Apethumb. I had to attach a screenshot instead. I'm sure this will ruin any chance i have. What do people have the right to do when something like this happens? I'm doing business, but i'm sure a lot more people are doing serious business. Money! Money! I suppose this is what i get for what i paid for. Any suggestions on a better host would be appreciated.

Try emailing them and asking for a bit of compensation, they may give you a month or two free hosting, or at least an apology and a excuse...err.. reason for the outage.

You said you've been with them for over a year and this is the first problem. I wouldn't go switching hosts or bad mouthing them yet. Give them a chance to redeem themselves. Things happen sometimes that are out of the hosts control, it's how they handle the situation after it's resolved that really counts.

Also verify that it wasn't a scheduled downtime. I know I've glazed over an email before from my hosting company that turned out to be a warning of an upcoming downtime for upgrades, server moving, or whatever. But one little spurt of down in a year really isn't bad at all. 99.9% uptime is exactly what you get o:

This is what they said in their response once all was back up.

started corrupting data including the backups we were doing. Eventually the
server just went down. We had to rebuild the server and try and salvage any data we could. This was somewhat of a learning experience for us as we now know what to look for even closer to make sure this doesnt happen again.

They have been good in the past. They always tell me about maintenance atleast a week before it happens.
I just got stressed out. I put too much time in to all of this to have something go wrong that's not my fault. I suppose that's the chance we take, though. A good learning experience for me too.
