I am not sure what happened but with all those keywords in your post, I might get the number 1 spot on Google for "taxes!"

A very good point! there's far too much tax nowardays. Must remember, though, that some of these wouldn't have been around 100 years ago becuse driving and telephones etc. wern't commonplace:
Quote:
Recreational Vehicle Tax
Road Toll Booth Taxes
Gasoline Tax (42 cents per gallon)
Road Usage Taxes (Truckers)
Telephone federal excise tax
Telephone federal universal service fee tax
Telephone federal, state and local surcharge taxes
Telephone minimum usage surcharge tax
Telephone recurring and non-recurring charges tax
Telephone state and local tax
Telephone usage charge tax
Toll Bridge Taxes
Toll Tunnel Taxes
Traffic Fines (indirect taxation)
Trailer registration tax
So of course no costs for road building etc.

I thought this one was good, though:
Quote:
Gasoline Tax (42 cents per gallon)
In the UK we pay the equivalent of $4.95/gallon, of which $3.84 is tax....

I know why so many ride the tram in the UK now. Or maybe the cars are more fuel efficient.

When I first went to Germany, I was trying to figure out how much the gas was in US dollars. After figuring it out, I was amazed that it was about the same as home in the US. Then the guy told me it was a liter, not a gallon. Ouch!

Yes, taxes are too high! In the U.S., Seattle tried to create a tax on lattes, but the voters nixed it!

What a taxing discussion! Didn't they want to tax email or something?

Fortunately, that was found to be a hoax.
