Hello,

I have 2 computers and I have got one that is in some trouble. I do not know alot about PC's and I thought that maybe one of you could help me.

My son was browsing the net yesterday and got a virus and my home page has been jacked. Not to mention all of the nasty pop up's that are coming up now, from porn to car ad's. Needless to say, my wife is not pleased....lol. He said the only thing that he did was look at a short movie clip and it said that the windows media player needed updated so he clicked on yes to update it. Right after that, this all happend.

My OS is 2000 Pro.

This is what I have tried so far for the home page problem.

I went to internet tools and tried to change it back, yet it doesnt work.

I ran window washer, norton and spy sweeper and they didnt fix the problem.

I went to the control panel, to the remove programs and found 2 new items that had been put on my PC. They are from, you wont believe this, an anti spy ware company that wants me to buy their product to fix the problem of THEIR ad's poping up on my screen and the diversion of my home page.

I deleted them. Yet guess what, that didnt help. My home page is still jacked by this place. Not only that, but when I rebooted my PC, guess what, they were right there again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd problem.

Which I really believe is a continuation of the 1st.

This virus that I have.

Right now Norton comes up on my screen about every 15 mins says that it found a virus and is deleting it. Which I'm glad. The problem is, it keeps coming back. I have run a full system scan 3 times with norton and it clears me. Yet, it keeps catching it. This is what it say's each time:

Norton has deteted a virus and has deleted it:

C:\WINT\system32\1024\IdDAOB.tmp

Type: Trojan Dropper

In about another 15 mins, it will come up again saying the same thing except that the last will be different:

C:\WINT\system32\1024\???????

Now I have run norton and it then say's it is clear. Yet the virus thing will come back up later saying it deleted it again.

I went to the C:\WINT\system32\1024 file and delted the whole thing hoping that this would slove this problem. Yet it has not and it continues.

I dont know what to do about this. I am having to use my lap top right now becuase I am afriad to use my desk top for anything and I dont want it to spread further. Yet, I just dont want to Fdisk the whole thing and lose everything on it. I have alot of things on there, including alot of business things that I dont want to lose. Also to be honest, I dont want to have to go through the day's of updates to get everything back up to speed...lol.

If anyone has an idea what I can do about this, please let me know. I warn you in advance, I am no computer wiz so please if possible pretend I dont know how to do anything..... speak to me so that I understand what your saying...lol.

Thank you and God bless!

ok i don't know if this will work but it did for me once so maybe it will work for you too
put your computer in safe mode by hitting f8 when it starts up then manually find and delete the files.

disable system restore (assuming windows XP) RC My Computer -> Properties -> System Restore tab

download and run HijackThis Post the log and we'll tell you what to delete,

or
download MS Defender and install that.

and
download Spybot and run that

Between those it should get rid of the spyware.
