It's hard enough to build a popular webmaster forum as it is without alienating half of the planet

I'm going to ask a really stupid question: why women specifically?

Does it not make more sense to take part in a gender-neutral web discussion board that would enable its users to get answers to questions more quickly and participate in discussions that would have more points of view and thereby provide more insights into web-related topics?

I must be missing something really obvious here.

Female webmasters are the worst webmasters I have ever seen. Some of them are hot. Others are <snipped>.

<ignoring last post>

I am a member of women hunters & women bowhunters, but a women webmasters group hadn't really occurred to me. Maybe I'll have to look into that.

How insightfully unobservant of you.

I don't really think there's any need for gender specific webmaster forums. It's not really something that has any relation to any aspect of being a webmaster...

I am a Webmistress and to me a Webmaster is the male. There are both crummy webmasters and webmistresses and great webmistresses and webmasters. Doesn't make any difference what the gender is. You either have or you don't!

Personally I don't belong to any women groups, nor will I ever, I prefer to converse either business wise or socially with both genders.

You see???? There is even discrimination in a webmaster forum, that is just sad. What is this world coming to. The gender related groups should not even exist, race groups eather. We should just get along and ferget about all of this discrimination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are gender and racial differences though. Why should we deny that they exist?
I can accept that differences exist without using them to discriminate.

Take "culture" for example. Culture is nothing more than racial or national differences, and we celebrate them.
We even spend 1000s going to other countries so we can experience racial and national differences (cultures) first hand.

Yes there are gender and racial differences-which is why I belong to a womens bow hunting and women hunters group. When I shot my bow it is physically different than when my husband or DarkLink shots it, and it's quite obvious just watching the three of us shoot. It's also different just between my husband and DarkLink because DarkLink is two inches taller than his father, they have different builds and Dad has more experience.

When I design a website my thought processes are probably a bit different that Stox's or Adam's or any other males because a woman's brain is wired slightly different.

I don't think that means that men or women are better at archery or web design...just that there are differences in how they achieve their results. And sometimes it is nice to chat with someone who reaches their results in a similiar fashion that you do.

^^True. It's also nice to have a good pool of knowledge (i.e. twice as much) with both genders.

Can't believe some of the posts here. Was the creator of ebay not female? Why should one even have to come up with an example to demonstrate that women and men are just as good at webmastery?!

Probably because there are more bloke webmasters. Why d'you think that is?

In fact, women are often more intelligent than men, so it wouldn't surprise me if the select few were better than men!

Anyway, it might be that the original poster had a specific reason to want a women webmaster site?...

Exactly! and it is definately beneficial to talk with both genders about things like this but to answer the other question...

well without going into too much detail, in my religion genders dont mix freely.

Actually...my brain is wired slightly different than everyone else's. I'm web design's answer to Bill "Spaceman" Lee.

Anyway, this is why I made the original comment that I did (and why Minaki appears to agree with me). I wouldn't participate in a men-only web design discussion board since I would want the additional perspective of a woman (since they're over half of the target market).

So again, unless I'm missing something painfully obvious, why does it work the other way around? Would you not want as many perspectives and opinions and thoughts as possible? I really don't understand this.
