I disagree.
Microsoft bought computing to the mainstream non-tech user base. They did this through making sure their software was easy to interact with from the User's point of view. People have always had a choice, and they chose Microsoft. The business world is run by manages, and managers want to see results. Yes, other alternative software may be more technological advanced than Microsofts, but people who can produce results quickly wit this type of software are few and far between.
Microsoft software does have it's downfalls, but at the end of the day, it does what it's supposed to do with minimal fuss. And that's what users want, not 600 different cryptic ways to search a text document.
