I heard a high-pitched shriek and a buzz when I had my speakers up halfway (and I'm 29).

Was that the ringtone?

Twas indeed.

Search for "noise" on NYtimes.com and it'll come up.

Knew about the concept before... it's funny it's been used as a ringtone though

With all the kids owning iPods these days, in another decade no one under 15 will be able to hear it

Hmm, I'm 35 and a fan of loud music (my 11 year old daughter frequently tells me to turn down the car stereo) and as such have attended quite a few rock concerts and I'm positive I have damaged my ear drums, but I heard it with my speakers set quite low. Maybe I could hear it because of my "Mom ears"?

I agree with Chroder too though - DarkLink (who turns 16 in 10 days) listens to his Iriver at just a little below the max. I can't handle it that loud directly in my ears!
