Hey people...
was just wondering that the Webmaster Talk people should acknowledge the best written posts or the most informative posts here in the forums. ... There sure could be an incentive to share something useful with the world ? What say ?
Cheers
Sparsh
PS : This is also to celebrate my 100th post.... LOL

There is Talkupation to award people for giving good advice.
I don't know how they would acknowledge individual posts though, There are 100s of post made on WMT every day.

The incentive is to help other people out. As a moderator, I can tell you that there is not enough time in the day to read every post made on WT in a day - even if it was all I did all day long. Without reading every post, there would be no way to fairly reward above average posts. WT is a community and keeping it useful and a fun place to be is every member's job.

Talkupation is nice, but having said all the above, some forums have competition quite regularly. Or, they have a points system, whereby users can trade their points in for prizes. I know giving away money probably wouldn't sound like the most appealing thing to most admins, but it can be really effective at getting new members and quality posts.
eWealth seem to have done this rather effectively and have a reasonable range of prizes. As a webmaster, even advertising packages can be a good incentive.

For new forums prize incentives might be a good idea, But WMT doesn't have any trouble getting new members or getting people to post.

I can only speak for myself, but I've seen some of the forums that offer prizes like free domains for posting and when I read through them the posts often seem more concerned with getting the free stuff than actually making good posts.
I find the quality of posts is typically better when people are posting because they want to and either have something to say or truly want to help someone.

I understand your point, but I'd rather see people post because they wanted to be part of the community and have something to contrbute to the converstation then because they're motivated to win somthing. I also suspect that while any winning post would be a quality post that there would be many less than quality posts submitted just in the hopes of winning. The success of a forum really does depend on the quality of the members and the individual posts.
I agree with you that it will probably encourage more posts, but I don't know that the overall quality of the posts would increase.
I'll also agree with Kandi that it would require a lot of work by the moderators to read all the posts. I'm probably here about as much as anyone and I open a lot of posts. Still I'm nowhere near close to reading enough to judge which post is best. There's only so much time in the day.

True, it would be impractical to do it on a "quality post" basis, and hey, that's what talkupation's for anyway!
And of course doing it on a per post basis would reduce the quality of the forum to that of a paid-per-post one!
Anyway, hopefully we'll see more competitions like the retsambew dash klat one
Edit: Yay, 800th post! Gimme five, sparshpolly!
